Visual Arts & Crafts

Join our leisure courses for either an individual course or continuously throughout the year.

We believe that everyone has talent and our structured modules ranging from 6-8 weeks will stimulate your creativity. Broaden your horizons with our fully qualified art tutors who are also practicing artists.

Core skills are taught in each module and previous participants will benefit from a different project each time.

Classes are held in our new and bright, contemporary Studio and course descriptions are available from our office.

Visual Arts & Crafts Botanical Art – Drawing and Watercolour

Learn the skills you need to capture flowers and plants in pencil and watercolour in a precise and convincing manner. Accurate observation is the key and students will learn through one-to-one tutorials and demonstrations. All levels are welcome.

Visual Arts & Crafts Painting with Acrylics

Monday, 7–9.30pm

All levels are welcome to explore painting with acrylics on a large range of subjects. Our creative course teaches painting techniques on board and canvas looking also at composition, colour theory and textures. Focus on your own art and creativity in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Visual Arts & Crafts Felt Making – Contemporary Textiles

Experience the magic of wool fibres as a textile medium through felt making. Develop new skills experimenting with colour and different surface techniques. Our January project focuses on Nuno felting to create a craft or art piece. Open to all levels.

An opportunity to develop and learn drawing skills in a structured way with a view to start painting. For all levels who wish to learn and extend their knowledge of drawing techniques and colours. Projects for our Spring session include drawing with colour and mixed media.

Drawing and painting from a selection of life models with a good balance of long and short poses. Develop your observational skills and learn how to structure the figure effectively. Use different drawing and watercolour techniques to describe the human form, exploring angles shapes and gestures. Open to participants who have a little drawing experience.

Starting a sketchbook can be daunting and this is a drawing course with a difference! Discover how a sketchbook will improve your art through drawing and mixed media skills and how to record and develop ideas. Our January project looks at Landscape in its widest form. Learn mono and relief printing techniques without using a press with an emphasis on stimulating design, colours, shapes and forms. Fun and experimental for all levels. Lino cut and different printing surfaces are explored.
