ART-PLAY-LEARN Fest
Art Classes & Workshops
Sun 14 May: Multiple activities for all ages between 10am-5pm
Learning through Art, Learning through Playing, Experience Art through Playing & Learning
A glimpse at an alternative way of learning (as it takes place in schools). Using enjoyable, playful and interactive activities to engage and challenge our social, emotional and cognitive skills. These sessions will be particularly interesting to parents/carers that seek to develop their own understanding of what is developmentally important for young people of any age.
The core of the day are two talks by invited educators with expertise on this unique approach (ideally to be attended by adults alone):
10-11am Teaching through Art (followed by Q&A) – Amanda Bell
11.30am-1pm The Value of Craft in Education (followed by Workshop) – Kilian Voss
Additional details about each workshop are provided at the bottom of this page, below the programme.

YOUNG PEOPLE
Comic Book Panel Art (10+yrs)
Discover different forms of illustration and expand the practice of drawing by trying new ways of working with pen/pencil and paper. In this introductory workshop, we will visit the work of well-known comic artists and create a one-page comic strip that would include elements of story writing and how to convey that through imagery.
Visual Poetry (7yrs+)
This is your opportunity to get creative with words and become a poet! During this session we won’t be looking at traditional poetry! Instead, we will recycle song lyrics and pages of your favourite books into poetry, explore collage as a visual writing technique, and try our luck at the form of the black-out poem.
FAMILY
Butterflies in vibrant pastels (7-14trs & parent/carer)
In this session we will observe some butterfly specimens and photographs and do some freehand drawings in colourful chalk pastels. Its a really fun and expressive media, you cannot help but make a beautiful piece of art!
ADULTS
Butterfly postcards
In this session attendees will be invited to make their own butterfly postcard. You will observe some butterfly specimens and photographs and using these as a reference, ink in a simple sketch of a butterfly. You will then add some colour to the wings using watercolour and a fine brush, to finish up with an effective and beautiful postcard.
Yoga & Soundbath
A combination of relaxing and meditative sounds, followed by gentle and restorative yoga. Bring your own yoga mat. Suitable for beginners. Through regular practice, yoga has the potential to ease tension, lower blood pressure and relax our bodies and minds. Through yoga, we find harmony, stability and balance as the body develops new pathways and tools to be able to sustain these feelings long term. Sound Baths are acoustic healing journeys to relax the body, calm the mind and activate your body’s natural healing systems. This immersive sound experience will gently allow your mind to enter a meditative state, while vibrations will aid in revitalising your body and release tension.
