Chinese Brush Painting

Open to all adults – no experience required.
This course is designed for anyone who is interested in Chinese Art & Culture. It is intended for adults from different backgrounds who know very little about Chinese Art & Culture. It aims to teach the basic ideas of Chinese Art and how to read, understand and create Chinese paintings at an elementary level. It teaches you how to appreciate and interpret such artworks by illustrating the relationship between style to theme. By the end of the course, you should be able to comprehend how Chinese Art (painting) is being represented and interpreted. You should able to use Chinese painting tools in a proper way and to paint / create your own art pieces.
Week 1 : First touch of Chinese painting tools , learn simple strokes
Week 2: Practicing of strokes (little Calligraphy ); Observing the form & shape bamboo trees ; introducing the philosophical meaning of bamboo in Chinese culture
Week 3: Moving the brush; Method of mixing ink ; Brush-side technique
Week 4: Panda and its characters; use of space and composition
Week 5: Turing the brush for creating various effects , such as blending, heavy /light ink Week 6: Revising & practicing ; Creating a complete work of bamboo & panda Chinese painting
Materials
* A kit with all materials needed is provided (and included in the price)
* Students are requested to bring: some newspaper (for each lesson, to protect the table and absorb the extra ink), 2 small mugs/ jars, some tissue/ kitchen paper/ a piece of cloth
