Creative Embroidery (Aut22)

From Drawing to Stitching: This course is open to everybody who would like to learn the techniques of creative hand embroidery. You do not need to be able
to draw to enjoy this course. Techniques of transferring images onto different textiles will be shown and you will learn a variety of styles for hand embroidery. The design element of the course will encourage you to explore images for stitch inspiration from your own photographs, found images or from drawings. You will be able to produce attractive hand embroidered textile images with simple designs that can be framed and presented in decorative ways.

TUTOR: Sophie Long

CORE SKILLS
· Develop samples of stitches in a range of techniques including applique, gold work and surface embroidery.
· Develop an understanding of how different textiles can be embroidered· Learn how to transfer a design onto fabric· Experiment with drawing to create your own unique embroideries

MATERIALS LISTS
Students do not need to bring anything with them – unless they own their own embroidery frame (seat or floor). A small pair of sharp embroidery scissors, thimble if required. A range of material and threads will be available to buy from the tutor and embroidery frames will be available to borrow during the course.

TUTOR
Sophie graduated from the Royal School of Needlework in 2008, having mastered more than 30 hand embroidery techniques including silk shading and
goldwork. Sophie’s passion and undeniable talent for embroidery is displayed through her hand embroidery classes, extensive range of kits and
original works. A high point of Sophie’s career came in 2011, when she was invited to be part of the team to work on Kate Middleton’s much publicised
wedding dress. Sophie has written two embroidery books since graduating and currently spends most of her time teaching at venues in and around Surrey and London.
