Exploring Watercolour Painting – Extension Course

It is for those with some experience (at least one course of watercolour).

The course will focus on, extending your development and experience of watercolour painting techniques focusing on the use of texture as well as brush work and core skills. It is for those with some experience (at least one course of watercolours) and an ability to work some of the time independently. It will include homework and some preliminary work to be done before the class. Subjects will include, still life, landscape and abstract themes.

– Exploring Surfaces and Textures: – Textural Landscapes – Painting a textured landscape from photos or sketches focusing on Sea, rocks, cliffs, stonewalls or composition of your choice
– Design, form and shape: – Designing with still life items considering structure, shape scale and proportion
– Creating mood and atmosphere: – Make a personal journey exploring colour, tone and composition

• Composing and designing from basic forms from landscape to natural forms
• Practice in applying watercolour using a variety of techniques, and combining with other materials and media
• Experiment with various textures and surfaces to produce a range of different studies and styles both contemporary and traditional

Materials
Any watercolour materials you may already have
Pencil 2B
Drawing pen with black ink
Sketch pad small A5 or 6
Brush Pen (Tombow or similar)
Large wash brush size 12 or larger and a smaller round brush size 6
Small rigger brush
Set of watercolours with palette and water containers
Several sheets of300gsm of NOTwatercolour paper or pad A4 up or above
A sponge, tissues
Masking tape, scissors and ruler
Other unusual materials will be available to try when needed
