Introduction to Printmaking: Line, Shape, Texture (1-day)
Art Classes & Workshops
20 July: 10am-5pm
Open to all adults – no experience required.
Suitable for the absolute beginner, this Printmaking Taster Day will give participants the opportunity to try out several different printmaking methods exploring Line, Shape & Texture. In the morning participants will focus on ‘Line’ and learn how to make a simple drypoint print using drypoint plastic. There’s no need to be an expert artist – simple tracing skills are all that’s required!
A selection of images will be available for you to use as a starting point, or bring along one of your own (A6 size) if you prefer (but remember the image will be reversed in the print). We will be using oil based ‘safe wash’ inks and then print the plate ‘intaglio’ using the etching press. In the afternoon we will experiment with monoprinting concentrating on ‘Shape’ & ‘Texture’.
We will use simple paper cut-outs to introduce blocks of colour and learn how to add texture into your prints with some blind embossing.
Materials
All materials provided. However, working with inks is messy, so please bring along an apron and a few pairs of disposable gloves (or a close fitting pair of kitchen gloves) for inking.
