Life Drawing: Full Body (1 or 2 or 3-day)

Art Classes

16-18 Jul, 10am-4pm

Open to all adults – beginners and those with experience. Book the first day only, and at the end of it, decide if you want to continue with the second and third days.

This is a carefully structured course which combines the teaching of traditional observational methods with exciting and innovative exercises designed to help you to analyse and interpret the figure in different ways.

You will enhance your visual intelligence and your knowledge of the figure. and leave the course with a pile of drawings and plenty of strategies to solve all sorts of life drawing challenges when drawing independently. Sensitive one-to-one tuition will be given. A different life model will pose each day and there will be a balance of long and short poses. You will be working from an easel either standing or sitting.

  • Broad range of approaches to introduce different ways of observation.
  • Explore proportion, plotting, angles and shape.
  • Learn how to structure your drawing.
  • Depicting gesture and expressive mark making.
  • Drawing from standing, seated and reclining poses.
  • Develop your own personal response to the figure.

Materials (required by the students)
A range of pencils HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B, sharpener, box of mixed size willow charcoal sticks, putty rubber or general eraser, 30cm ruler, a pad or plenty of A2 cartridge and/or coloured paper, minimum of 2 coloured pencils, approx 2 sheets of A3 tracing paper, masking tape, bulldog clips, 4 plus sheets of mid toned paper (can be brown parcel paper), white and dark conte or pastel pencil, scissors and mono-zero eraser.
Optional: any other personally preferred materials, e.g. graphite, pastels, paints, inks, pens, coloured pencils, conte crayons, different types of paper e.g. black.

Tutor
Emily Burton who studied Illustration and Drawing, has been described as a firm but smiley teacher.
