Calligraphy – the Art of beautiful writing is a very rewarding practice that helps us get into a mindful state and remain completely focused whilst creating something beautiful. Come and explore the fascinating world of pointed pen Calligraphy with Sai, an experienced Calligrapher and teaching artist, who will guide you through this 5-week Beginners Modern calligraphy course.

In a world where communication is largely driven by technology, the art of writing can often seem irrelevant, but the beauty of a handwritten card or note is timeless. In this course you will learn the basics of hand lettering and Modern Calligraphy using a traditional dip pen and ink. Modern Calligraphy has a universal appeal, as it is a more flexible, accessible and playful version of traditional Calligraphy. This course is suitable for complete beginners. No previous experience required.

By the end of the course, you will develop your own unique script that reflects your style and personality. You will be ready to apply calligraphy on anything, be it a simple envelope or stunning cards. We will create a beautiful hand-lettered poem of your choice, which can be framed.

If you always wanted to try modern calligraphy or you simply want to write beautifully, this course will help you to learn and master an amazing life skill that is bound to spark your creativity and bring you joy.

What to expect?

• We will cover the basics of Modern calligraphy and focus on creating beautiful thick and thin strokes using your dip pen and ink.
• Once you become familiar with the pen strokes through practice drills, you will learn how to create letterforms (uppercase and lowercase) step by step, followed by words and small phrases.
• We will explore different nibs, inks, papers and other essential tools for Modern Calligraphy.
• You will also be taught some interesting tips and hacks that will help you to progress with your Calligraphy practice. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice and for troubleshooting.
• All materials will be provided including a Beginners calligraphy kit.
