Speed Writing – songs in 30 mins or less!

Music Classes

27 Aug, 1.30-3.30pm

All Ages 18 and up – moderate singing ability will be helpful.

For some, the biggest barrier to creativity is just getting started. This workshop encourages us to jump in and go, before our brains can say no! Starting with playful improvisation to unlock creativity, participants will work together to compose short and simple songs, and perform them at the end. It’s all about trusting your instincts, saying yes to your first idea, and going wherever the music takes you – and there’s no time for perfection, because the clock is ticking! This fast and fun workshop is guaranteed to make you laugh, and will hopefully give you more confidence to get creative.

Discussion points include:
– Improvising as a tool to unlock creative potential
– Improvising as a tool for arranging and composing
– Process vs Outcome (the practice of creativity)
– Play vs Work (creating a playful environment)
– Do vs Think (taking action before making decisions)
– Yes vs No (taking the first idea and running with it)

Class structure- warmups and creative games
– group composition
– group performance
– (tbc) recording ideas

All materials provided. Instructor will have a recording setup for documenting ideas and will provide you with a finished mix of the songs you create! If someone happens to have a boring textbook or novel with them (you’ll find out why later) that would be great, but not essential!

Tutor
Kevin Fox is a former Swingle Singers member, who loves nothing better than to help people discover their creative and musical potential.
