Thursday Special: Masterpieces of 1940’s & ’50’s Cinema (talk)

ONE-OFF: Thu 3 Oct, 7-9.30pm

Join us for a captivating 2.5-hour presentation on some of the finest films produced during the 1940s and 1950s. Through clips, analysis, and social context, this session will provide a deeper understanding of the period’s cinematic masterpieces from the US, Britain, Europe, and beyond.

In this session, we’ll explore:

  • The social and historical backdrop of WWII and the Cold War
  • The challenges faced by filmmakers outside the Studio system
  • The excellence of the Studio system during its golden age

The presentation will be informal, relaxed, and interactive, encouraging discussion around the themes and contexts that shaped these cinematic classics. There will be a short break halfway through for tea, coffee, and a leg stretch.
