Wellbeing: Experimental Printmaking

Open to all adults with little or no experience.

This course is aimed at those who want to take printmaking to the next level. You will come with an open mind and be ready to have fun, using different printmaking techniques including Mono printing, lino-printing and dry point. Use of traditional collage printmaking technique of Chine-collé will also be taught creating layers within your print.Whilst we will use some traditional use of collage, your prints can then be developed further using different layering techniques, use of applique hand sewing techniques can be used to embellish your work.

Printing on different papers, cardboard, fabric this course will open you up to the possibilities of trying different ways of working.We will start with a mark making exercise which will help you to understand how to use your tools – before embarking on your own project.

At the end of the course, you will have enough understanding of how to continue using these techniques at home.

-History and understanding of collage and printmaking including contemporary artists that use these techniques
-How to translate a sketch into collage using different images and materials
-Basic lino-printing – use of tools and equipment
-Basic dry point techniques using tetra pak
-Use of tools and equipment
-Basic mono printing – use of tools and equipment.
-Printmaking inks (in this class we will be using water-based inks), rollers
-Applique and simple embroidery techniques
-Hand printing and use of a press.

Materials
Apron or old clothes as you will be using inks (No open toe shoes as you will be working in a studio where sharp equipment is being used)
Ruler
Craft knife, with scalpels of hobby knife
Scissors
Pencils including 6B
GluePaint brushes
Inks or paints such as acrylics or water colours.
Sketches or ideas to use in your collage
Embroidery needle – some embroidery silks threads you may wish to use
News papers, magazines, images you may want to cut up
Any other scrap materials, beads, buttons you may want to include use with your work.
Will be working at a maximum of A4
