Wellbeing: Intermediate Bookmaking (Spr23)
Art Classes & Workshops
Date: 27 February 2023 - Mon 13 March 2023
Duration: 6-9pm
These sessions are ideally for those who have already attended our Beginners’ Bookmaking sessions. Each week we will work on a different book structure, building on the skills learned in the Beginners’ Bookmaking sessions. Some elementary bookmaking experience is required.
TUTOR: Gill Smith
STRUCTURE
Week 1: Single Section Case Binding
Week 2: Simple Longstitch Binding
Week 3: Japanese Stab Binding with a hard cover
MATERIALS LIST
All materials for the books are provided. Specialist bookmaking tools are available for use during the workshops. However, participants should bring along the following:
– a suitable bookmaking knife (such as a clip-point shoe knife or old kitchen butter knife) for slitting paper.
– a metal safety ruler
– an apron (we will be using adhesives each week)
We will also be using scalpels to trim the books, so participants should be confident in working with sharp blades.
