Wellbeing: Introduction to Lino-printing

10, 17, 24, 31 January 7 February  

Suitable for beginners and those who have some knowledge or have been to previous course and wish to expand their printmaking skills – you will have an opportunity to work on your own projects.

You will…
– learn essential skills in lino cutting and printing
– to carve and print your own lino block using hand-printing techniques
– be introduced to different artists that use Lino printing
– learn how to use the tools safely and experiment to produce different marks, lines and tones
– be taught registration techniques

There will be an opportunity to explore composition, use of colour and how to transfer images to the lino block, before carving, use of water-based inks and rollers to produce simple prints.

Each week you will build on your previous weeks knowledge. Printmaking is fun and has endless possibilities.

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with a basic knowledge to continue using this fun technique in your own time.

Basic history – Artists that use/have used this printmaking technique.
Tools and equipment required to work successfully in lino printing.
Transferring image to lino block Composition and use of colour
Collage techniques
Use of inks, (water based in class) rollers and papers
Understanding of different lino blocks and their uses
Registration of a print Hand printing and use of press

Materials
An old apron or shirt as you will be using inks
Sketchbook of ideas that you may wish to transfer into print
Your own basic cutting tools
Sharpie Pen – Black
Hobby knife or craft knife
Cutting mat – A4
Ruler
Graphite pencil including 6B

Other equipment will be provided – including A6 Lino

*Please wear covered shoes when in the workshop as we will be working with sharp equipment.
