Wellbeing: Stone Carving inspired by nature (Spr23)

Art Classes & Workshops

Date: 21 February 2023 - Tue 14 March 2023

Duration: 2,5 hours

Start Time: 7pm

This is a practical, hands-on class with a supportive atmosphere, suitable for beginners with an interest in art or who are used to working with their hands. Suitable for adults and young people 16 years or over. You do not need any particular skills, simply the ability to hold tools in both hands- a chisel in one, and a dummy (stonemason’s hammer) in the other.

Use hand tools (provided) to carve a multi layered relief with overlapping shapes, patterns and textures in a supportive atmosphere, suitable for beginners with an interest in art and those used to working with their hands. Create an expressive design in Maltese limestone (provided) using nature as an inspiration, working over four lessons. Topics will include designing a relief, creating a border, using a flat chisel to set out your design, creating the illusion of depth and overlapping shapes, making textures with a claw chisel and using a riffler to smooth your design and add detail.

Please note this course does not include letter cutting.

TUTOR: Amanda Randall
