Young Actor Training: Ensemble (5-day, 18+)

Other

21-25 August: 10am-4pm

This is open to adults – some previous acting experience would be beneficial.

This new course is open to all those interested in the possibilities of producing new and exciting theatre in the unique environment that the Landmark provides. It will give an insight into creative ways of exploring the world of acting in a supportive atmosphere. Participants will be invited to develop their own practice by working collectively though contemporary approaches to movement, improvisation and text work. The structure of the course is based broadly on the teachings of Le Coq , a French theatre practitioner whose training was aimed at nurturing the creativity of the performer.

Core movement work
Students will be guided through a series of theatre games, exercises and improvisations to connect with each other in imaginative and interesting ways. They will be encouraged to approach the work playfully and discover that sometimes the simplest movement can speak volumes.

Text
Students will develop this core movement work to find how the body and the mind can combine to create new ways of exploring text taken from plays, poems and their own improvisations. They will discover there are infinite possibilities when it comes to interpretation.

Ensemble
The core movement and text work will be brought together by creating an ensemble of all the course participants. They will discover how the power of theatre can be greatly enhanced when the actors are working sympathetically together in a group whose members are continually making discoveries.

Conclusion
The course will take place in the large nave area of the Landmark. Towards the end of the week participants will be invited to discuss what the future possibilities are of creating theatre in this unique and exciting space.
