Botanical Art – Painting and Drawing (Mixed Ability) – Summer of Culture 2026

Build your skills in botanical art through drawing and watercolour techniques in this structured, hands-on course. Working from flowers and plant forms, participants will develop observational skills, focusing on accurate and realistic depiction. Through step-by-step demonstrations, the course explores tonal contrast, texture and composition to create balanced and detailed studies.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience, the sessions support confidence in both drawing and painting. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of plant structure alongside practical techniques for developing botanical illustration work.

Tutor Bio: Marcia Hughes is a botanical artist and watercolour painter whose work is inspired by the beauty and detail of the natural world. A self-taught artist and elected member of the Society of Women Artists, she has built a strong reputation as both an exhibiting artist and an experienced tutor in botanical painting and drawing. Alongside exhibiting her work across the UK, Marcia has led courses at the Landmark Arts Centre and in adult education for many years, helping participants develop confidence in observation, drawing and watercolour techniques through a supportive and encouraging approach.
