Creating Christmas Cards with a Turkish Map Fold

Make unique, fold-out festive cards using vintage papers and ribbon. Open to all adults with little or no experience, with complimentary free access to the Sparkle Art Fair at the Landmark Arts Centre.

Get festive with this playful and hands-on paper folding workshop. You’ll learn how to make a unique Christmas card using the Turkish Map Fold, a sculptural paper structure that unfolds with surprise. Working with beautiful vintage materials, you’ll design cards that are personal, textured and joyful to give.

You’ll learn:

• How to use the Turkish Map Fold technique in elegant way
• Choosing and preparing vintage papers, such as children’s books, literary texts, wrapping paper, music papers, and other collage or tissue papers as motifs
• Assembling and embellishing with ribbon
• Finalising and packaging your bespoke card

Who’s this workshop for?

This workshop is open to adults of all experience levels, including complete beginners. Ideal for anyone who enjoys paper craft, Christmas creativity or making thoughtful handmade gifts.

Materials and preparation:


What’s included: cards to design, vintage children’s books, texts, wrapping paper, music papers, tissue paper, ribbons and other collage materials.

Please bring: 

• An old apron or shirt
• Sketchbook of ideas that you may wish to transfer into print
• Hobby knife or craft knife
• Cutting mat (A4 size recommended)
• Ruler
• Graphite pencil

Please wear covered shoes when in the workshop, as we will be using sharp tools.

If you have any vintage papers or other Christmas materials that you would like to use, please brings these along to add to your designs.
