Open to all adults. No previous writing experience required.
Course Outline
Do you have an idea for a short story or novel you’d like to develop further? Would you like to share your work with other writers? Are you interested in learning more about the craft of writing?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, this course will be perfect for you.
You don’t need any previous writing experience, just a passion for the written word.
Each week you’ll write and share your work in a safe and supportive environment. There will be talks, handouts, guided discussions, prompts, exercises and workshops, all aimed at helping you enhance your core writing skills.
Course Content
You’ll explore:
- Developing style and voice
- Writing characters your readers believe in
- Effective world-building and scene setting
- Learning about point of view and how to use it effectively
- Understanding rhetorical language and how it can enrich your writing
- Structure, plot, action, pace and tips for keeping your reader engaged
- Sharing and critiquing writing in a positive and supportive environment
- Reading like a writer

Please bring along a notebook and pens.
Tutor Bio:
Liz Bazalgette is a passionate creative writing tutor with several years’ teaching experience. She holds an MA in Creative Writing, a BA in Humanities, and teaching and counselling qualifications. She has researched, devised and taught courses which connect creative writing, nature and wellbeing. Her stories have been shortlisted for competitions including Bridport and Fish, and she has a long-standing interest in poetry, prose and creative non-fiction.
Liz believes creativity is most rewarding when explored in the company of open-minded enthusiasts, and she brings this ethos into her teaching.
