Exploring Mixed Media Painting– Extension Course

It is for those with some experience (at least one course of mixed media).

The course will focus on, extending your development and experience of a range of painting techniques focusing on the use of texture as well as brush work and core skills.

There will be a requirement to work some of the time independently and will include some homework and preliminary work to be done before the class. Subjects will include, still life, faces, landscape and abstract themes

– Exploring Surfaces and Textures: -Textural Landscapes – Painting a textured landscape from photos or sketches focusing on Sea, rocks, cliffs, stonewalls or composition of your choice
– Faces, line, form and shape: – Working from photos of faces considering structure, shape scale and proportion
– Painting in the abstract: – Make a personal journey exploring colour, mood and texture through the use of collage and monoprint

• Composing and designing from basic forms from landscape to natural forms
• Practice in applying acrylic, collage ink and drawing material using a variety of techniques
• Experiment with various textures and surfaces to produce a range of different studies and styles both contemporary and traditional

Materials
Any acrylic materials you may already have or gouache
Bottled ink, watersoluble ( quink ink)
Pencils – 2B, 6B, or 8B
Black marker pen
Drawing pad A3 or larger
Large flat Acrylix brush size 12 or larger and smaller a round brush size 6
Set of Acrylics with palette and water containers
Several Acrylic boards and/or
Acrylic treated paper, minimum A3 size
Plastic or wood Palette
Painting knife plastic or metal and a sponge
Sand, PVA glue and old newspapers
Masking tape, scissors and ruler
Other unusual materials will be available to try when needed
