Enjoy a warm, hands-on creative session and make something truly personal for Mother’s Day in this practical and welcoming workshop.

Workshop Time: 3:30pm-6:00pm

Learn the fundamentals of lino printing while designing and printing your own bespoke Mother’s Day cards.

You’ll be guided step by step through the full process: from developing a simple, effective design to carving, inking and printing your lino block. With demonstrations throughout and one-to-one support from our expert tutor Louise Anderson, this workshop is ideal for beginners and those looking to refresh their printmaking skills.

By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a small set of beautifully hand-printed Mother’s Day cards and envelopes, each made with care and intention.

What makes this workshop special:

  • You can join a relaxed introduction to lino printing in a supportive studio setting
  • Clear demonstrations and individual guidance throughout
  • A focus on simple, elegant designs that print beautifully
  • The satisfaction of printing by hand or using a shared table-top press
  • Finished cards that are thoughtful, personal and handmade

You’ll explore the techniques for:

  • Designing a simple Mother’s Day image suitable for lino printing
  • Transferring your design accurately onto a lino block
  • Using cutting tools safely and effectively
  • Inking your block for clean, even prints
  • Printing onto cards using hand pressure or a table-top press

What to bring and wear:
All essential workshop materials are provided, including blank cards and envelopes, lino blocks, cutting tools, tracing paper, and printing inks

For safety, please wear covered shoes, as sharp tools will be in use.

We also recommend that you bring:

  • An old apron or shirt to protect your clothes (you’ll be working with ink)
  • A sketchbook with simple ideas to develop into print
  • Black, bold pen or marker
  • Hobby or craft knife
  • Cutting mat (A4 size is ideal)
  • Ruler
  • Graphite pencils, including 6B

About the tutor
Louise Anderson completed her MA in Art & Space at Kingston School of Art and has exhibited at the Stanley Picker Gallery, a major milestone, having previously not had the opportunity to attend art school. Her work was later selected for Goldsmiths’ UrbanPhotoFest and the Memory & Materiality Graduate Show (2016) at The Greenwich Gallery in London.

She describes her creative process as a mindful state of flow, grounded in research and investigation across archives, museums and other sources of inspiration.

Passionate about teaching, she enjoys working with both new and returning students – helping them to explore ideas, develop their own projects and experience the excitement of pulling their first print from the press.
