Papier Mache is a French name, but it was not made in France until the mid 17th century. Actually, papier mache originates from China, examples have been found dating back to the Han Dynasty (BC 202 – AD 220). The ancient Chinese used papier mache to make helmets of all things, which they hardened by lots layers of gloss paint or lacquer. The interest in papier mache spread from China to Japan and Persia, where it was used in mask making and festival activities. In time it spread across the world.

In this 2-day workshop, students will learn how to apply the techniques of Papier Mache in their art creation. Masterpieces of Gustav Klimt and Wu Guan Zhong ‘s work of symbols and patterns will be studied and applied in their artwork.

Day 1: Learners will learn how to design the object (vase or a container), making a draft and plan the colours/ patterns. They will also begin making the model of the object that they have designed.
