Workshop Description:
Discover the striking possibilities of scraperboard and create your own atmospheric snow scene in this hands-on workshop.
Scraperboard is a smooth black board which, when gently engraved or scraped with cutting tools, reveals a gleaming white surface beneath. Similar to wood engraving or linocut, the contrast between glossy black and bright white can create dramatic and rewarding results.
You’ll explore working from black to white, using different graphic marks to create a range of tonal values and learning how to plan a strong tonal design. You’ll also discover strategies for creating simplified but dynamic compositions before developing and rendering your own snow scene.
Your finished piece can be as abstract or representational as you choose, making this a great opportunity to experiment with a distinctive technique and develop your own approach.
