Class Overview:
Transform how you see everyday objects and learn to capture them in watercolour. In this weekly course, you’ll explore still life painting through observation, composition, and colour- building confidence step by step.
Working from simple arrangements to more detailed compositions, you’ll develop essential techniques and discover how to layer colour, control water, and bring depth and atmosphere to your paintings.
What you’ll explore:
Week 1:Introduction to Materials & Watercolour Basics– Understanding brushes, paper, and paint behaviour
Week 2:Observational Drawing & Composition– Selecting objects, light, and perspective
Week 3:Colour Mixing & Layering– Building tone, harmony, and depth
Week 4:Core Watercolour Techniques– Wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and lifting methods
Week 5:Developing Complex Still Life– Combining drawing and painting skills
Week 6:Refinement & Personal Style– Creating more confident, expressive compositions

By the end of this course, you will have mastered fundamental watercolour techniques and developed the skills necessary to create complex compositions.
This course is for:
Ideal for adults who are new to watercolour or returning after a break.
Perfect for anyone who wants a calm, creative space to develop painting skills.
No prior experience required.
Materials:
Pencils & Eraser: HB and 2B pencils; one putty rubber (kneadable eraser).
Watercolour Paper: An A4 or A3 pad of high-quality, cold-pressed, 300gsm watercolour paper. (Recommended for beginners: Winsor & Newton or Canson XL).
Sketching Paper: A few sheets of A4 drawing or cartridge paper for preliminary sketches.
Paints (Artist-Grade): Basic tubes or pans in the following colours:
Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, and Sap Green.
Brushes: Three high-quality watercolour brushes:
1 x Large flat or round wash brush.
1 x Round brush (size 5–8).
1 x Fine detail brush (size 2 or 3).
Palette: A large palette is essential for mixing custom colours, creating consistent washes, and preventing paint from drying too quickly.
Others: Masking tape, a household sponge, and an old toothbrush.
Optional Extras: Masking fluid (or a masking liquid pen), a candle, or wax for resist techniques.
Note: Please ensure you bring all of the above items to the first class
