
Wellbeing: Introduction to Lino-printing

The course is an introduction to basic lino printing principles and methods. It is aimed at those with little or no experience in lino-printing or it can act as a refresher if you have not picked up your tools in a while. We will explore the basic history and look at how artists that have used lino-printing in their work. How to transfer your own sketches into simple images on to lino.
Learn how to use your tools safely to produce interesting marks including exploring line, tone and texture to produce simple black and white prints. Use of the different inks and rollers to produce a simple print. You will also be taught different registration techniques. How to print using a press but also by hand successfully. We will start with a simple mark making exercise which will help you to understand how to use your tools, inks and other equipment – before embarking on your own project.
By the end of the course, you should be equipped with enough information to confidently explore the medium in your own time.
-Basic history of lino-printing
-Tools and equipment needed to work successfully in lino printing.
-Simple marks making techniques.
-Transferring an image to lino
-Printmaking inks including use of rollers and papers (in this class we will be using water-based inks)
-Understanding of the different linos and their uses
-Registration of a print
-Hand printing and use of a press.
Materials
An apron or old shirt – you will be using inks Sketchbook or drawings you may want to develop into print form
Your own cutting tools
Hobby Knife or craft knife Scissors.
Ruler Pencils including a 6B Small brush for cleaning lino
Other equipment will be provided we will be working A6 initially.
*Please wear covered shoes when in the workshop as we will be working with sharp equipment.
