Exhibition Area
Lizzie Brewer, a local conceptual artist, who has been invited to show her artists’ book 10 Meters of Mycelium; which is a 10 metre long scroll that has never before been exhibited in its entirety, due to the scale of the work. Lizzie says: “A year was spent working on drawings associated with fungus and mycelium. These were based on some rotting vegetative material which was cultivated over time to produce funghi. Funghi were some of the first complex life forms on land, mining rocks for mineral nourishment, slowly turning them into what would become soil. Mycelium connects trees and plants underground. This ten metre long drawing of mycelium presented as a handscroll expresses the importance of mycelium and the fact that we could not live without it.”
Lizzie will be doing an artists’ talk on Saturday afternoon at 2pm; no booking required – gather by the exhibition space.

Miranda Kemp graduated from Oxford Polytechnic with a degree in Visual Studies and History of Art, during which she was first introduced to bookbinding. After a short career in visual merchandising and a much longer career teaching art to children, Miranda came back to bookbinding. She has been a student at Studio 5 with Mark Cockram for many years. Miranda is also a keen printmaker using a variety of printing methods including etching, linocut and monotype. She uses her prints for endpapers, book covering and artists’ books.
She was elected as a Licentiate of Designer Bookbinders in 2022 and has won several prizes for her books. Miranda’s bindings are held in several private collections and also at the British Library. She now spends her time working on fine bindings for competitions and commissions.
